Wells is a pretty hamlet bisected by Lake Algonquin, an impoundment of the Sacandaga River. Because it was the most prosperous of Hamilton County's towns in the mid-1800's, its main street looks and feels like New England. The scenery, however, anchors it in the Adirondack Park. There is a public beach and paddling opportunities on the east branch of the Sacandaga.
The high school that serves Lake Pleasant and Wells is located on Rt. 30. Local businesses include Alicia C Miller Real Estate, Hamilton County Cable TV, the Over Rock Cafe, and Bureau Logging, Excavation and Construction.
